Performance Reviews

What is it that makes it so difficult to tell you on some kind of regular basis how you are doing?

Why do so many managers feel the need to save it all until that one time per year when they sit you down and tell you all the things you did wrong? How can you be expected to correct something that happened so long ago?

This is really stupid.

And how meaningful is praise for a job well done that comes so long after it is over? I wonder sometimes what it is like to be the child of one of these stupid managers. Do they come up to them on their 21st birthday and share all the things that they should have done differently for all those years? Surely not. So why do it with another human being?

And don't you just love being told you were "average"? Who wants to be average? I think only those who are below average want to be average. I think we all want to be recognized as unique individuals. Is that so difficult? I suppose it is for a stupid manager.
